CMB / NWFB MCW Super Metrobus 12metres ( ML )
In April 1981, China Motor Bus introduced the first 3-axle double-deck bus, the Metro-Cammell Weymann (MCW) Super Metrobus DR115/1, to Hong Kong. The Metrobus, ML1, was then registered as CM8935 on May 1981. Together with the second Metrobus, ML2, delivered to HK and being put into services in October 1981, these two Metrobuses being the buses with the highest passenger capacity, amounted to 170 and 169 respectively, in Hong Kong.
There are a number of characteristics that can be identified the ML1 and ML2. One of them is that the ML2 is the only Metrobus having a dual-exit-door in the CMB fleets. The ML1 and the other 82 Metrobus, which acquired in the later time, do not have the same specification.
Later in the February 1983 and October 1987, CMB made two orders on acquiring 42 and 40 Metrobus from Metro-Cammell Weymann. The specification of the new buses were all based on ML1. It made the total number of Metrobus 3-axle have been reached to 84, ML1 - ML84, after the last Metrobus on delivery to Hong Kong and registered in November 1988.
In the time of the New World First Bus took over the franchised services from CMB in September 1998, all the 84 Metrobus 3-axle have been purchased by NWFB. After the new ultra-low-floor buses, being acquired by NWFB, have been delivered, most of the Metrobus 3-axle are purchased by an overseas company for tour services. The buses are then delivered to either the UK or Australia in the year 2000.
