 KMB TransBus Enviro-500 12-metre ( ATE ) On 12th November 2002, the first Transbus Enviro-500 arrived to Hong Kong on delivery to the Kowloon Motor Bus, which leads the new generation of air-conditioned super low floor double-decker buses in Hong Kong. The production of the Enviro-500 is based on the improved design of Dennis Trident chassis. All-round disc-brake is being introduced. And the width of the chassis also increased to 2,550mm. The all-new Enviro-500 are powered by the Cummins ISMe-335 engine, with 10.8-litre cylinder capacity, which fulfilled the Euro-III standard. This engine can perform the maximum power of 335bhp @ 2,100rpm and maximum torque of 1,410Nm @ 1,200rpm. The Voith DIWA-864.3E 4-speed fully-automatic and ZF Ecomat-2 5HP602 5-speed fully- automatic gearbox are being chosen to be fitted in the first batch, which are in proportion of 65 and 55 respectively. With the widest bus saloon and the revolutionary straight staircase design, the Kowloon Motor Bus named these Enviro-500s as "Super Bus". The plug door is also introduced to the rear exit of the Enviro-500, which can prevent hot air and dust being brought into the saloon from outside. The Lazzarini seats with meteor-pink in color are being introduced and totally 53 and 27 seatings are being fitted in the upper-deck saloon and the lower-deck saloon respectively. It is just only 2 more seats installed in the upper-deck saloon than which of in Walter Alexander bodied Dennis Trident 10.6-metre. The maximum passenger capacity of the Super Bus can reach to 124 with 44 standees allowed. The first TransBus Enviro-500 Super Bus had been registered as KX675 and fleeted as ATE1. The bus will hopefully be put into services of a cross harbour route in the mid of February 2003.
